February 1990 Recommended Puro

February 1990 was all about the Tokyo Dome, New Japan brought in some help from AJPW to produce the event and its these cross promotional matches that shined the greatest.

Akira Nogami & Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Naoki Sano & Pegasus Kid

From NJPW- Super Fight In The Tokyo Dome 10th February

This is all kinds of awesome, particularly anything involving Liger and Sano. There’s flips, dives and action aplenty, but its the way they sell and deliver everything that makes it great.

Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Kengo Kimura & Osamu Kido

From NJPW Super Fight In The Tokyo Dome- 10th February

All Japan invade the Tokyo Dome! The crowd is boiling hot for this one, with Jumbo standing out as the real star in this back and fourth contest. Gotta love you some inter-promotional hate too.

Genichiro Tenryu & Tiger Mask vs. George Takano & Riki Choshu

From NJPW Super Fight In The Tokyo Dome- 10th February

Oh man the the hate between Tenryu and Choshu is palpable and the crowd loves it, very cool call-back to their old feuds. It’s nothing you havent seen before from these guys but that shouldn’t mean you shouldn’t stop what your doing and watch it right now. Things get chaotic near the end but in a good way.

IWGP Heavyweight Title Match

Big Van Vader (c) vs. Stan Hansen

From NJPW Super Fight In The Tokyo Dome- 10th February

All kinds of brutal here, between two of the stiffest workers in the business. Every little exchange is vicious, as they tee off on each other freely. Vader’s shoulder gets busted and more horrifically his eye pops out of his socket.. so of course he pops that thing back in and continues on. Don’t think Hansen gets off lightly either. The finish is rubbish but it’s still must watch viewing, if you can stomach it that is.

Tenryu & Toshiaki Kawada vs The Great Kabuki & Mighty Inoue

From AJPW Excite Series- 21st February

Tenryu and Kawada are a far more formidable unit the Kabuki and Inoue. You expect Inour and Kabuki to hang in there for sure, but then they just keep on coming and soon we have a real fight on our hands, much to the shock of Tenryu.

Minoru Suzuki vs Tatsuo Nakano

From UWF Road- 27th February

Takano plays things smart, forcing Suzuki to work from underneath him whilst keeping those strikes at bay as best he can. Suzuki is Suzuki and he just wants to fight and mame, no matter his personal safety.

Nobuhiko Takada vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara

From UWF Road- 27th February

Takada’a status as top dog combined with Fujiwara’s age, mean there’s a clear underdog heading into this bout. Someone needs to find out Fujiwara’s exercise routine though, cause he starts shifting and bobbing away like a man half his age, and he soon has Takada cornered and in trouble. If your OK with a slower moving match then give it a watch.
